Tickets: No guest tickets are required. Guest seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
The ceremony will be available via a livestream the day of the event for graduates and guests who prefer to attend virtually. The event will also be recorded and distributed to all graduates after the ceremony.
FAQ
Graduating students should arrive between 12:45 p.m.-1:30 p.m. Graduating students will check in and line up on the second floor in rooms E22-24. All graduating students should be checked in and in their procession line by 1:30 p.m. There will be signs directing graduates to check-in.
Guests may enter Exhibit Hall B when doors open at 1:00 p.m. Graduates should urge all guests to arrive as early as possible and be mindful that traffic around the venue is likely to be heavy before and after the event. Guests will not be able to enter the hall while the student procession is underway.
Downtown will be busy on December 15. Please allow additional time in your planned commute for parking. The recommended Greater Richmond Convention Center parking structure is the GRCC Deck located on the corner of Third & Marshall Streets. Event parking is currently $8.
Remote participants may join us virtually via livestream. The livestream will be available on this website the day of the event. A recording of the livestream will also be available following the event.
Regalia will not be required for the School of Business Commencement on December 15. Graduates who do not wish to wear regalia are expected to dress in business attire. Regalia may be purchased at Barnes & Noble @ VCU (1111 W. Broad St.) or online at balfour.com/vcu.
Yes! The VCU university-wide commencement will be held on Saturday, December 14, 10:00 a.m. at the Siegel Center.
December 2024 Commencement Speaker
Gary Zhu
Deputy Chief Investment Officer, AllianceBernstein
Gary Zhu is a senior vice president and deputy chief investment officer of insurance, where he is responsible for portfolio performance, strategic positioning and customized investment solutions for AB’s insurance platform.
Zhu joined AB in 2020 as the global head of multi-sector insurance on the fixed-income team, primarily focusing on developing and implementing multi-sector income portfolio strategies. In 2021, he was named director of insurance portfolio management, where he led AB Fixed Income’s insurance business. Under Zhu’s leadership, the multi-sector insurance team was named Investment Team of the Year in 2022 and 2023 by Insurance Asset Risk. He is also a portfolio manager in the U.S. investment grade credit and sustainable thematic credit teams.
Prior to AB, Zhu was a senior publishing research analyst and the head of cross-sector research at Wells Fargo Securities. He ranked first for cross-asset strategy in the 2019 Institutional Investor survey and earned the title of Best Cross-Asset Analyst in Global Fixed Income Strategy.
Before joining Wells Fargo, Zhu was a senior securitized assets trader and portfolio manager at Genworth, where he managed about $10 billion of fixed-income investments. Prior to his portfolio-management role, Zhu helped manage Genworth’s $70 billion general account, with a focus on U.S. and European banking exposures during the 2008 financial crisis and held various roles across the company.
He holds a Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, in finance and economics from Virginia Commonwealth University and an executive MBA, with dean’s honors, from Columbia Business School. Zhu is a CFA charterholder and holds the Fellow, Life Management Institute designation.
