Program Calendar
The MDA Weekend Program is completed in 20 months. Classes meet two weekends per month.
The first weekend of each month is mandatory in-person.
The second weekend is offered in a HyFlex format, attended in person or virtually.
No matter your goal, the MDA Weekend Program provides the tools, experience and confidence to take that next step.
Our alumni work as data analysts, senior consultants, analytics managers, data product owners, business intelligence analysts and machine learning analysts across nearly every industry, including healthcare, finance, government, logistics and technology.
Career outlook
Demand for analytics and AI professionals is rapidly growing. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in data science and related fields is projected to grow by 36% through 2033.
Professional development
As both a student and an alumnus, you have access to professional development resources, including personalized career coaching, access to job postings and employer events.
Many students secure partial or full sponsorship from their employers to help finance their studies.
Federal aid
Traditional financial aid is available through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Graduate students may borrow up to $20,500 per academic year through federal unsubsidized loans.
VCU’s Military Student Services helps veterans, active duty service members, spouses and dependents transition from service to academics—offering counseling, GI Bill guidance and connection to resources.

After July 1, applications are accepted on a rolling basis if seats are still available in the cohort.
How to Apply
To apply, submit the VCU Graduate Application with all required supplemental materials, including:
A $75 non-refundable application fee
Application for Virginia In-state Tuition (if applicable)
Transcripts for each college/university attended
A statement of intent
A current resume
Three letters of recommendation
International applicants shall submit one of the following to meet the English proficiency requirement:
TOEFL score of 100
IELTS score of 6.5
Duolingo score of 120
Pearson Test of English score of 65

Statement of Intent
The statement of intent should be a concise document (1–2 pages) in which you articulate to the admissions committee: Why are you applying to the specific program you have selected, and how does it align with your goals?
Think of the statement of intent as a cover letter for your application. This is your opportunity to share your background, experiences and aspirations with the admissions committee.
Transcripts
Include transcripts from each institution you attended. Unofficial transcripts may be uploaded with your online application; however, official transcripts will be required if you are admitted. Official transcripts are defined as those sent directly from the institution or via a selected electronic service (i.e., Parchment) to VCU.
Recommendations
Three letters of recommendations are required. The online application will request an email address for each recommender. VCU will contact them on your behalf.
Test scores
We do not require a GMAT or GRE score.
