I am honored to introduce myself as the new dean of the VCU School of Business and to have this opportunity to connect with you.

It’s hard to believe that just a year ago, I was wrapping up my first semester as interim dean. Over that time, I’ve seen how much this school means to so many of you, and I’m incredibly thankful for the warm welcome I have received. Thank you for sharing your hopes for the school, and for what we’ve accomplished together in such a short time.

I’ve had the privilege of meeting many of you at wonderful events like the Investors Circle, the Veterans Classic Happy Hour and the A-10 Tournament in D.C. I’ve also crossed paths with others over the years as a faculty member. And what I’ve come to believe is this: you, our alumni, are in a unique position to inspire our students—not just by what you’ve achieved, but by what you’re willing to share.

That’s the part of this job that excites me the most—because your experience, your perspective and your stories help students see what’s possible. When alumni get involved—through internships, classroom visits or mentorship—it changes how students approach their education and their future.

We’ve seen that in action across many departments this year, and we’re working to build even more of those opportunities into the student experience.  

We recently completed a strategic planning process to define a shared vision for the School of Business and a roadmap to get us there. Our plan, Opportunity 2030, reflects the voices of faculty, staff, students, alumni and many others who came together to identify priorities and set a course for the next five years. I invite you to explore the plan on our website.

In the months ahead, I see even more opportunities to collaborate—with our students, with each other and with the broader community. When you have an idea, a challenge or a chance to bring students into your world, I hope you will think of the School of Business.
